The program will include:

• Seminar discussions, readings, group presentations and lectures. • Educational travel to other parts of the United States, local site visits, and volunteer opportunities• Develop the participants' leadership and collective problem-solving skills. • Experience firsthand how not-for-profit organizations and volunteerism play a key role in American civil society.

Study of the United States Institute for Student Leaders from Brazil

The Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Brazil and the US State Department are pleased to invite candidate nominations for a “Study of the United States Institute for Student Leaders from Brazil." The institute will take place over the course of five weeks. The tentative dates are January 24 to February 28, 2009. This program is a key component of the Partnership for Latin American Youth announced by President Bush during his March 2007 trip to the region. 18 students will be selected.

General Program Description

This is a five-week program for Brazilian highly motivated first through third year undergraduate students from colleges, universities and other institutions of higher education. Deadline for candidate applications to be received by the US Embassy in Brasília is October 19, 2008; applications received after that date will not be considered. Participants must be fluent in English.
